Trip Itinerary:

We kindly ask for your understanding that the final tour itinerary including our detailed recommendations can only be provided after your confirmation and down payment.

Day 1: Zurich Airport to Lucerne:

Zurich Airport is very well connected to Zurich city center. With only about 15 min by train to the city center, you can already benefit from your Swiss Travel Pass. Taking a taxi is not worth it here as you most likely get stuck in traffic.

The famous Bahnhofstrasse, the old town and numerous museums are within walking distance from the train station. We specifically recommend visiting the Swiss National Museum Zurich, showcasing the history of Switzerland from ist beginnings up to the present day, giving an insight into the Swiss identity and the rich tapestry of the country’s history and culture.

*All Swiss train stations offer lockers in all sizes where you can leave your luggage behind for some hours.

Within an hour you'll reach Lucerne.

Day 2: Lucerne

Lucerne's Old Town is rated every year among the most beautiful towns in the world. Stroll around before you we will invite you on a boat cruise on Lake Lucerne.  Those who are interested in the history of Switzerland might want to hop off and hike part of the Switzerland trail or visit the meadow where the legendary oath of Rüttli was taken and therefore a confederation of the first three cantons was formed.

As a final highlight, we will include the oldest cogwheel train of Switzerland up to the top of Mount Rigi, the queen of all mountains. Enjoy once more the scenery of the Alps and Lake Lucerne.

Day 3: Lucerne to Bern

Bern is a great base for the next couple of days to do some excursions the next two days.

Bern's cute little Old Town (Altstadt) is both convenient and enjoyable to explore by foot, with many streets restricted to pedestrians and public transportation. The Old Town spans from the Nydeggbrücke in the east to the Käfigturm, a tower that was once a city gate, in the west, on a narrow steep hillside. Marktgasse, which leads through the Historic Town and is filled with old houses that have been turned into small shops and businesses, is the main thoroughfare. The Kirchenfeldbrücke provides easy access to the museums in the Kirchenfeld neighborhood, which is located on the opposite shore of the Aare.

Self-Guided (Train)

Day 4: Excursion to Zermatt

Within 2 hours and only one interchange, Zermatt and Bern are very well connected which makes it a great day excursion.

You will have the chance to discover Zermatt on the foot of Switzerland's natural landmark - the Matterhorn. Very popular is the 5 lakes hike for a perfect reflection of the surrounding mountains.

Also, take up the cable car to the Glacier Paradise, Europe's highest cable car station (3883 meters). One of the highlights is certainly the platform with a view over 38 four-thousand-meter peaks and 14 glaciers of the Swiss, Italian and French Alps.

Day 5: Excursion Gruyère & Schönried

The medieval town of Gruyère is home to the namesake AOP cheese and close by in Broc is one of the biggest chocolate manufacturers based. Just around the corner lies the chocolate factory Cailler - in about one hour the tour leads you through the history of chocolate, from Aztec cocoa ceremonies to the innovations of today.

For the afternoon we'd like to invite you to pick up a pre-packed fondue rucksack from one of the local cheeseries. Just how you like you can choose between shorter and longer hikes/walks to get to one of the giant fondue pots for your delicious fondue in the mountains.

Day 6: Bern to Kandersteg

Within one hour you'll get to Kandersteg to make it on time for your following days with Backroads.

Day 6-10: Backroads Travel through the Bernese Oberland

Day 10: Giessbach to Lugano

Travel Day: via Brienz and Lucerne you'll reach Lugano in about 4 hours to enjoy some leisure time in the Italian-speaking canton of Switzerland.

Day 11-13: Lugano

Lugano is the largest town in this area. The city with its Mediterranean flair lies in a bay on the northern side of Lake Lugano. Have an excursion to the 3 Fortresses of Bellinzona.

For one of the best viewpoints over the town, the lake, and ist surrounding mountains, take the funicular railway up Monte Brè, considered the sunniest mountain in Switzerland.

We will provide you with some of our suggestions for these days.

Day 14: Lugano to Zurich

Lugano and Zurich are directly connected. Your hotel is located conveniently close to the famous Bahnhofstrasse (shopping district) in the heart of Zurich's Old Town. Therefore great to get some souvenirs and/or stroll a little through the city.

The twin towers of the Grossmünster are not only Zurich's prominent landmark, visitors can also climb up the Karlsturm and enjoy a breathtaking view over the city.

Day 15: Departure from Zurich Airport

We are confident that this itinerary will provide some exclusive memories for you until it is time to say: "Ade, Au revoir, ciao and hope to CYou again in Switzerland"
