Long-distance hike along the Bern-Luzern border, in six stages through Emmental and Entlebuch, up the Brienzer Rothorn and on to the Brünigpass. En route: many activities and information on history, culture and landscape of the border region.

The Grenzpfad Napfbergland is a long-distance hike between Emmental and Entlebuch. A route along the cantonal border between Bern and Luzern, where hostile skirmishes were still taking place 150 years ago. The Grenzpfad likes to cross borders on its way from the baroque buildings of the former St. Urban Monastery along rugged, romantic paths up to the Brünigpass. The route runs through the gently rolling Emmental landscape, through the Entlebuch biosphere reserve and has no shortage of summits: Napf, Wachthubel, Marbachegg and the Brienzer Rothorn to name but a few.

At the heart of the Brewery

The Museum has much more than a brewery collection within its walls, it is the witness of an enormous emotional heritage, that of a unique link between Fribourg and its first real industry, the Cardinal brewery.

Who would have bet that this small brewery built at the Auberge du Saumon on the banks of the Sarine in 1788 would have known such a destiny?

The towering Matterhorn, Europe's most iconic peak, rises above the breathtaking Alpine panorama at 4,478 meters. This natural swiss landmark is located on the border of the Valais in western Switzerland, between Zermatt and the Italian resort of Breuil-Cervinia, and is a haven for nature enthusiasts seeking peace and silence. The Matterhorn's symmetric pyramid shape, the stony teeth reaching for the sky, and light reflections from the surrounding Stellisee combine a one-of-a-kind natural spectacle in Zermatt.

For a long time, the Matterhorn was thought to be too hard to climb. Edward Whymper, a British climber, as well as three mountain guides and three more Englishmen reached the summit on July 14, 1865. Unfortunately only three people made it out alive.

Today many hike and bike trails make it a fantastic scenery to marvel this landmark.

Lavaux is Switzerland's wine region. It consists of 830 hectares of terraced vineyards that span for around 30 kilometers along Lake Geneva's northern shoreline.

Although there is evidence that wine was produced within the area already during Roman times, the original vine terraces date back to the 11th century when the territory was ruled by Benedictine and Cistercian monasteries. Benefitting from a mild climate, the southern face of the terraces, with the sun reflecting in the lake and the stone walls, gives the location a Mediterranean atmosphere. Chasselas is the most common wine grape variety planted here.

The vineyards of Lavaux are protected from development by cantonal law. Lavaux has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since July 2007.

Hiking in the vineyards of Lavaux is a popular activity. From Saint-Saphorin to Lutry, there is a hiking trail called "Terrasses de Lavaux."
