Trip Itinerary:
We kindly ask for your understanding that the final tour itinerary including our detailed recommendations can only be provided after your confirmation and down payment.
Day 1: Zurich → Appenzell (guided)
Your guide will meet you in the arrival hall of the airport and you will start your tour with a visit of Europe's largest waterfall: The Rhinefalls. By boat, you get on the Rock in the middle of the falls to understand the power of this natural spectacle. Your journey continues along the Rhine to the medieval town of Stein am Rhein which is well-known for its well-preserved old town with painted facades and half-timbered houses. Along the shores of Lake Constance you will turn east to discover the UNESCO world heritage Abbey district of St. Gallen. Its magnificent Baroque cathedral forms a unique historical ensemble. The Abbey Library - with Switzerland's most beautiful hall and ancient books will fascinate you.
Later on, your driver-guide will bring you to your hotel awaiting you in the middle of the beautiful hills of the Appenzell.
Day 2: Rhine valley → Engadin (guided)
Your day starts with a visit of the Appenzell cheesery, as well as a stop in the micro-state Liechtenstein and the old town of Chur which is considered to be one of the most fully preserved in the country, before your journey will take you further south towards St Moritz in the Engadin. If you would like to do some shopping or equip yourselves for your next days in the mountains, we could also include a stop at the Landquart fashion outlet.

Day 3: Engadin (self-guided)
The Engadin Valley is a true nature and outdoor paradise. St. Moritz was not without reason the birthplace of winter tourism and hosted the Winter Olympics twice. Despite its cosmopolitan atmosphere, it is the culture and tradition of this luxurious Alpine resort that has made it what it is today. Whether you would like to enjoy a romantic horse carriage ride in one of the side valleys, enjoy some of the many nice walks in this area, or do some shopping in the luxury boutiques in St Moritz, there is plenty to do here and we will be happy to make suggestions so that you can make the most of this day.
Day 4: Engadin → Zermatt (Glacier Express)
Today we will add another highlight to your travel memories: The famous Glacier Express train ride. Over its entire length, the 8-hour journey on the Glacier Express leads over 291 bridges and through 91 tunnels over the Swiss Alps. Sit back and relax while the train winds its way through remote valleys, past sheer rock faces, idyllic mountain villages, over the Landwasser Viaduct, and through the Rhine Gorge, the Grand Canyon of Switzerland. A 4-course menu rounds everything up.
Day 5: Zermatt (self-guided)
The car-free town of Zermatt is located at the foot of Switzerland's landmark - the impressive Matterhorn. The peak lift takes you up to the 360º viewing platform on Europe’s highest mountain station 'Klein Matterhorn', from where you can see 38 four-thousand-meter peaks and 14 glaciers. A must-see is also Zermatt’s glacier paradise.
You can also enjoy the famous Gorner Grat train which gives an impressive view of the Alps and Zermatt and offers shorter and longer walks for every level.
Day 6: Zermatt → Montreux (self-guided)
Continuing your train ride along the Valais (Valley) canton the language will change from German to French. Arriving at the Montreux Riviera you can enjoy the rest of the day on the shores of Lake Geneva. A visit to the medieval Chillon Castle is always worth it.
Day 7: Lake Geneva area (guided)
Your guide will meet you at your hotel and take you up to the remote area of the Jura mountains. The Vallée de Joux is the cradle of high-quality watchmaking, where the most prestigious watch brands still can be found. The Espace Horloger Vallée de Joux museum offers visitors of all ages an opportunity to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of watchmaking and tells the history of this industry, as well as its future, through modern, playful, and interactive exhibitions. Not far from here, the Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet (optional; if you're still motivated), inaugurated in June 2020, invites visitors to plunge into the Swiss manufacturer’s cultural universe of past, present, and future.
Afterwards, the beautiful caves of Vallorbe are waiting for you to be discovered, before your guide takes you to the city of Geneva, where you will have time to stroll through its old-town and potentially visit the CERN (TBC: guided tours for individuals can only be booked on-site and on the day of arrival), before your guide takes you back along Lake Geneva to Montreux.
Day 8: Montreux → Jungfrau Region (guided)
Today another magnificent train ride is awaiting you - the Golden Pass. Personally, this is my favorite train line, even though it is short compared to the Glacier Express. Making its way up the steep mountain ridge you shouldn't miss a single moment! These tracks are also the only way crossing the nature parc of Gruyère - cars have to make a detour for hours to experience what you can do, stressless in one of the baroque wagons of the Golden Pass.
Your guide will pick you up on the other side of the national park for a short detour to the medieval village of Gruyère and the Cailler chocolate factory, as well as a stop in Switzerland’s capital Berne, before heading into the Bernese Oberland.
Day 9: Jungfrau Region (self-guided)
Icy air sweeps over your face, snow crunches underfoot, and the panorama almost takes your breath away: on one side the view of the Swiss Mittelland towards the Vosges, on the other the Aletsch Glacier, lined with four thousand meter peaks. Standing on the Jungfraujoch 3,454 meters above sea level, you can feel it with your first step: this is a different world. It's one you have to experience.
Day 10: Jungfrau Region – Lucerne (self-guided)
On your way you will pass the blue-colored Lake Brienz before arriving in Lucerne. Lucerne's Old Town is rated every year among the most beautiful towns in the world.
Day 11: Lucerne (self-guided)
Enjoy the day on the shores of Lake Lucerne and take advantage of a boat cruise which is a perfect way to discover the picturesque lake winding its way through the mountains.
If you are interested in the history of Switzerland you might want to hop off the boat and hike part of the Switzerland trail or visit the meadow where the legendary oath of Rüttli was taken and therefore a confederation of the first three cantons was formed. Or take the oldest cogwheel train of Switzerland up to the top of Mount Rigi, the ‘queen of all mountains’.
Day 12: Lucerne (Day trip to Lugano) (self-guided)
This day is reserved for a trip to Lugano (optional). Lucerne central station and Lugano are very well connected with direct trains in less than 2 hours (one way). Lugano is the largest town in the Italian-speaking canton of Switzerland. The city with its Mediterranean flair lies in a bay on the northern side of Lake Lugano. Stop in Bellinzona and discover the 3 Fortresses of Bellinzona. Romantic villages and numerous hiking trails are waiting to be discovered.
Day 13: Lucerne – Zurich (self-guided)
Your hotel is located conveniently close to the famous Bahnhofstrasse (shopping district) in the heart of Zurich's Old Town. A great way to discover Zurich and to learn a little more about ist history are the Free Walking Tours.
The twin towers of the Grossmünster are not only Zurich's prominent landmark, visitors can also climb up the Karlsturm and enjoy a breathtaking view over the city.
Day 14: Zurich to Basel (self-guided day excursion)
Today is reserved for a self-guided day trip to Basel, widely regarded as Switzerland's cultural capital. At less than 1 hour from Zurich, Basel is rich in sights and art museums. The fondation Beyeler provides a world-class collection of artworks and is considered one of the world's most beautiful museums. If time allows you could also wander around in Basel's Old-town - it's worth it!
We are confident that this itinerary will provide some exclusive memories for you until it is time to say: "Ade, Au revoir, ciao and hope to CYou again in Switzerland".
Day 15: Zurich → Zurich Airport
Zurich Airport is very well connected to the city center. With only about 15 min to the city center, you can benefit again from your Swiss Travel Pass. This will allow you to get some souvenirs or just enjoy a hot coffee on the shores of the Lake as well.
We are confident that this itinerary will provide some exclusive memories for you and your family until it is time to say: "Ade, Au revoir, ciao and hope to CYou again in Switzerland"
