Day 1: Arrival in Zurich → Lucerne
Well connected by train from Zurich Airport you can reach Lucerne in a bit over an hour. Sitting on the foot of the mountain Pilatus, Lucerne is often voted as one of the prettiest cities in the world, featuring a colorful old town and 14th-century city walls, as well as covered bridges including the iconic Kapellbrücke with its 17th-century art.
Day 2: Lucerne
Stroll around the beautiful Old Town before hopping on a boat, which is a perfect way to discover the picturesque lake Lucerne winding its way through the mountains.
Get off the boat in Vitznau and head up with the oldest cogwheel train of Europe to the top of Mount Rigi. Up there you'll also find the Rigi Kaltbad thermal bath for relaxation and spa treatments (reservations are only needed for potential massages or other treatments).

Day 3: Lucerne → Grindelwald
Over the Brünig Pass you will arrive in Interlaken from where the next train will take you to Grindelwald, located on the foot of the notorious Eiger North Face. The last alpine challenge is feared and admired for centuries. Right next to it rise the snowy peaks of the Mönch and Jungfrau.
Optional: Paragliding in Winter! After having received the gear to keep you warm: gloves, ski pants and snow boots, our driver takes you and the pilot up the mountain with our Paragliding-Interlaken van. During the 20-minute drive you will receive the “safety-talk” and a briefing on the take-off and landing process. After being dropped off, walk 3 minutes to the take-off site while enjoying the majestic view over the Interlaken region and Jungfrau mountain.
Day 4: Grindelwald
This day is reserved to explore the Jungfraujoch: Icy air sweeps over your face, snow crunches underfoot, and the panorama almost takes your breath away: on one side the view of the Swiss Mittelland towards the Vosges, on the other the Aletsch Glacier, lined with four thousand meter peaks. Standing on the Jungfraujoch 3,454 meters above sea level, you can feel it with your first step: this is a different world. It's one you have to experience.
Day 5: Grindelwald → Zermatt
Via the beautiful Kandervalley and Lötschbergtunnel, you will arrive in the canton of Valais. Only one more train ride away lies the car-free town of Zermatt, located at the foot of Switzerland's landmark - the impressive Matterhorn.
A must-see is also the Gornergrat, where the cogwheel railway takes you up from the village to 3,100 metres above sea level, surrounded by no fewer than 29 peaks above 4,000 meters.
Day 6: Zermatt
These two days are reserved for you to discover this snow paradise (e.g. skiing, sledding, spa, etc.).
Optional: Get ready to climb (hike) your first 4 000m peak - the Breithorn. This private tour is a perfect way to get a sense of high Alpine air for the first time, but only for surefooted and experienced hikers accompanied by a mountain guide. In the early morning, you take the cable car to the Matterhorn glacier paradise at 3,883 m. The climb to the top and the descent afterwards lasts about three hours depending on the conditions.
As you've mentioned you're foodies, we'll include the 2 nights in Zermatt with half-board (breakfast and dinner) because both restaurants of the Julen are highly recommended!
Day 7: Zermatt → Montreux
Continuing your train ride along the Valais (Valley) the language will change from German to French. Arriving at the Montreux Riviera you can enjoy the rest of the day on the shores of Lake Geneva. In the afternoon, we will organize a guided wine-tasting tour through the UNESCO world heritage Lavaux vineyards. If time allows, we also recommend visiting the medieval Chillon Castle.
In the evening, warm up with a glass of mulled wine at the Montreux Christmas markets along the shores of the lake, considered to be one of Switzerland's most beautiful Christmas markets.
Day 8: Montreux (Day trip to Gruyères)
Today a magnificent train ride is awaiting you - the Golden Pass. Personally, this is my favorite train line. Making its way up the steep mountain ridge you shouldn't miss a single moment! These tracks are also the only way crossing the nature parc of Gruyère - cars have to make a detour for hours to experience what you can do, stressless in one of the belle époque wagons of the Golden Pass.
A second short train will take you to the picturesque town of Gruyères. Stroll through this small medieval town, before visiting the show cheesery (CHF 7 per Person; tickets not bookable in advance) to see how the famous Gruyère cheese is made. Nearby, the Maison Cailler Swiss Chocolate Factory and museum await you. A tour through the history of Swiss chocolate incl. a degustation will make you understand what Swiss chocolate is all about.
Day 9: Montreux → Zurich
We suggest strolling around in Bern's cute Old-Town which is also a UNESCO world heritage site; and are you aware that the bear is not only the symbol of the canton? Bears live in the city center in a pit right on the other riverside of the old town (even though they might be in hibernation during your stay).
Enjoy the rest of the day in Switzerland's biggest city with its various Christmas markets. Whether at the oldest one in the cute old Town, or next to the 15-meter (49 ft) tall Christmas tree decorated with 7000 Swarowski crystals at the Christkindlimarkt at the main train station: There is a Christmas market for every taste.
Day 10: Zurich: Day Excursion to St. Gallen
From Zurich you'll head east to St. Gallen (about 1 hour via train) to discover the UNESCO world heritage Abbey district of St. Gallen. Ist magnificent Baroque cathedral forms a unique historical ensemble. The Abbey Library - with Switzerland's most beautiful hall and ancient books will fascinate you.
If you'd like to take a little detour: Further north you'll find Europe's biggest waterfall - the Rhine Falls.
Day 11: Zurich → Zurich Airport
The airport is only 15 minutes from Zurich city center by train.
We are confident that this itinerary will provide some exclusive memories for you until it is time to say: "Ade, Au revoir, ciao and hope to CYou again in Switzerland".
