Trip Itinerary:

We kindly ask for your understanding that the final tour itinerary including our detailed recommendations can only be provided after your confirmation and down payment.

Day 1: Arrival in Zurich Airport → Appenzell

Your guide will pick you up at the airport and you will start your tour with Europe's largest waterfalls "Rhinefalls" before it's time to turn east to discover the UNESCO world heritage Abbey district of St. Gallen. Ist magnificent Baroque cathedral forms a unique historical ensemble. The Abbey Library - with Switzerland's most beautiful hall and ancient books will fascinate you.

Later on, your driver-guide will bring you into the Appenzell with potential short walks and picturesque stops before arriving at your traditional hotel in this beautiful region. Even though it is only a 3* hotel, the Hotel "Bären" in Gonten is something special located in the beautiful hills of the Appenzell.

Day 2: Appenzell → Lucerne

You will start your day with an excursion into the heart of the Alpstein mountains - the Aescher Guest House at the Ebenalp is a spectacular sharp rock formation and construction work (1.5 km walk, 150m ascent/descent). Your guide will accompany you to Liechtenstein before it is time to turn west for central Switzerland. On your way, you will pass the beautiful blueish Lake Walen from where the mighty Churfirsten mountains arise.

Day 3: Lucerne → Lugano

Lucerne's Old Town is rated every year among the most beautiful towns in the world.

A journey on the Gotthard Panorama Express is an unforgettable experience and there is plenty to discover on the journey by boat and train. For not only can you look forward to a panoramic view of some of the most attractive regions in Switzerland here; but you will also experience many highlights on the boat and train.

Lugano is the largest town in the Italian-speaking canton of Switzerland. The city with its Mediterranean flair lies in a bay on the northern side of Lake Lugano.

Day 4: Lugano → Engadin

Along Lago Maggiore, your guide will bring you to Tirano, the starting point for the next scenic highlight.

Cross the Alps on the Bernina Express on the highest-altitude rail route in Europe, a UNESCO World Heritage railway line. You too can experience this fascinating panorama trip through the impressive countryside of Grisons.

Guided Tour

Day 5: Engadin valley (self-guided)

The Engadin Valley is a true nature and outdoor paradise. St. Moritz was not without reason the birthplace of winter tourism and hosted the Winter Olympics twice. Despite its cosmopolitan atmosphere, it is the culture and tradition of this luxurious Alpine resort that has made it what it is today.

In the afternoon we'd like to invite you on a carriage ride into one of the side valleys of the Engadin. Have a little snack or cocktail hour in the beautiful setting before the coachmen will pick you up again.

Day 6: Engadin → Zermatt

Today we will add another highlight to your travel memories: The famous Glacier Express train ride (Excellence Class *if available/timetables not announced yet). Over its entire length, the Glacier Express leads over 291 bridges and through 91 tunnels over the Swiss Alps.

On your trip from St Moritz, the train winds its way through remote valleys, past sheer rock faces, idyllic mountain villages, over the Landwasser Viaduct, and through the Rhine Gorge, the Grand Canyon of Switzerland.

Excellence Class Services:

  • Lounge seating with guaranteed window seat

  • exclusive access to the Glacier Bar

  • Tablet with Bordinfotainment

  • Concierge as host in the Excellence Class

Catering:

  • Coffee, juice, champagne

  • Regional 7-course menu incl. wine accompaniment

  • Tea Time in the afternoon with goodies

  • Soft drinks & fruit juices

  • Snacks throughout the day available

Day 7: Zermatt (self-guided)

You will have the chance to discover Zermatt on the foot of Switzerland's natural landmark - the Matterhorn. Very popular is the 5 lakes hike in the morning to get a perfect reflection of the surrounding mountains.

We'd like to invite you on a helicopter ride: On this sightseeing flight, you will track the Great Aletsch Glacier, which has shaped the landscape in the Aletsch region over thousands of years, and enjoy a unique view of the Bietschhorn and Aletschhorn. From far, you will discover Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau.

Also, take up the cable car to the Glacier Paradise, Europe's highest cable car station (3883 meters) to get closer to the Matterhorn. One of the highlights is certainly the platform with a view over 38 four-thousand-meter peaks and 14 glaciers of the Swiss, Italian and French Alps.

Day 8:  Zermatt → Montreux

Continuing your ride along the Valais (Valley) the language will change from German to French. Arriving at the Montreux Riviera you can enjoy the rest of the day on the shores of Lake Geneva.

A visit to the medieval Chillon Castle is always worth it.

Day 9: Day Excursion to the Jura and Geneva

Your guide will take you up to the remote area of the Jura mountains. In there the most beautiful caves of Vallorbe are waiting for you to be discovered. To round up your Switzerland trip we would like to invite you to one of the traditional mountain restaurants with traditional meals and one of the best fondues in whole Switzerland.

Visit CERN - Guided tours for individuals can only be booked on-site and on the day of arrival.

Take the evening to stroll around in Geneva, through its old-town, the flower watch or the famous Jet-d'eau.

Day 10: Montreux → Grindelwald

Today another magnificent train ride is awaiting you - the Golden Pass. Personally, this is my favorite train line, even though it is short compared to the Glacier Express. Making its way up the steep mountain ridge you shouldn't miss a single moment! These tracks are also the only way crossing the nature parc of Gruyère - cars have to make a detour for hours to experience what you can do, stressless in one of the baroque wagons of the Golden Pass.

Your guide will pick you up on the other side of the national park for a short detour to the medieval village of Gruyère

Day 11: Jungfrau Region (self-guided)

This area has so much to offer: Head up the famous Jungfraujoch, or one of the many other mountains offering fantastic panoramas, visit the valley of the 72 waterfalls and enjoy one of the many hiking trails in the area. You might want to take a walk on the Männlichen, the small servant of the royal three mountains: Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. The notorious Eiger North Face was long time considered to be the last alpine challenge. A walk on the Mänlichen will let you dive into the tragic and heroic stories of this wall.

Jungfraujoch (included):

Icy air sweeps over your face, snow crunches underfoot, and the panorama almost takes your breath away: on one side the view of the Swiss Mittelland towards the Vosges, on the other the Aletsch Glacier, lined with four thousand meter peaks. Standing on the Jungfraujoch 3,454 meters above sea level, you can feel it with your first step: this is a different world. It's one you have to experience.

Day 12: Jungfrau → Zurich

Via our capital Bern, you will make your way back to Zurich. Stroll around in Bern's cute Old Town which is also a UNESCO world heritage site; and are you aware that the bear is not only the symbol of the canton? Bears live in the city center in a pit right on the other riverside of the old town. If possible I'd like to organize a guided tour through our parliament for you (highly demanded and available only with no parliament sessions) for more explanation about our political system the direct democracy.

Your hotel in Zurich is located right in the heart of the Old Town and conveniently close to the famous Bahnhofstrasse (shopping district). The twin towers of the Grossmünster are not only Zurich's prominent landmark, visitors can also climb up the Karlsturm and enjoy a breathtaking view over the city and its Old Town.

Day 13: Departure from Zurich (self-guided)

As discussed you would go on your river cruise from Zurich.

I am  confident that this itinerary will provide some exclusive memories for you and your family until it is time to say: "Ade, Au revoir, ciao and hope to CYou again in Switzerland"
