Trip Itinerary:

We kindly ask for your understanding that the final tour itinerary including our detailed recommendations can only be provided after your confirmation and down payment.

General Info:

The itinerary is tailored in a way that it is doable with 2 persons as a partly guided tour (mentioned below in the description), as well as for 4 (or more) travelers as a fully guided tour (a driver guide + only the panoramic trains). As discussed we or your guide on site will point out a short morning physical (walk, jog, cycling) if there's no physical activity planned anyway for that day and make recommendations for food or restaurant in the evening.

Day 1: Arrival in Zurich

We will organize a private transfer from Zurich Airport to your hotel, located in the heart of the city - perfect for your day of arrival to go for a walk and get an impression of Switzerland's biggest city. To get a first insight into the Swiss identity and the country’s rich history and culture, you may want to visit the Swiss National Museum Zurich, showcasing the history of Switzerland from its beginnings up to the present day.

Day 2: Day Excursion: Basel

Today is reserved for a self-guided day trip to Basel, widely regarded as Switzerland's cultural capital. But first, start your day with your daily morning routine - a little sightseeing jog along the lake.  At less than 1 hour from Zurich, Basel is rich in sights and art museums. The fondation Beyeler provides a world-class collection of artworks and is considered one of the world's most beautiful museums. If time allows you could also wander around in Basel's Old-town - it's worth it!

Day 3: Zurich → Zermatt

Welcome to the Alps! On this 3-hour train ride you will head from Zurich to Zermatt lying at the foot of the world-famous Matterhorn. Along the way, we recommend stopping in Switzerland's capital Bern. Make use of the luggage lockers at the train station and stroll around in Bern's cute Old-Town which is a UNESCO world heritage site; and are you aware that the bear is not only the symbol of the canton? Bears live in the city center in a pit right on the other riverside of the old town.

Guided & Self-Guided

Day 4 & 5: Zermatt

Get ready to climb (hike) your first 4 000m peak - the Breithorn. This private tour is a perfect way to get a sense of high Alpine air for the first time, but only for surefooted and experienced hikers accompanied by a mountain guide.  In the early morning, you take the cable car to the Matterhorn glacier paradise at 3,883 m. The climb to the top and the descent afterward lasts about three hours depending on the conditions. Here's a short video for a better impression.

In the afternoon, enjoy some leisure time in the car-free town of Zermatt or make use of your Peak2Peak pass to explore more of the surrounding mountain panoramas.

The extra day is at your convenience and/or as a spare day in case of bad weather to get a chance to see the Matterhorn and do the Breithorn tour. In any case, Zermatt is a mountain paradise with thousands of shorter and longer walks as well as other points of interest.

Day 6: Zermatt → Montreux

Continuing your train ride along the Valais (Valley) canton the language will change from German to French. Arriving at the Montreux Riviera you can enjoy the rest of the day on the shores of Lake Geneva. A visit to the medieval Chillon Castle is always worth it and will be part of your travel arrangement.

For the afternoon: Follow the northern shoreline to Geneva, home of the UN, ICRC, and numerous other NGOs. Depending on your interest and time until departure, we are happy to organize a guided tour through the UN.

Day 7: Lake Geneva Region (guided)

Your guide will meet you at your hotel and take you up to the remote area of the Jura mountains. The Vallée de Joux is the cradle of high-quality watchmaking, where the most prestigious watch brands still can be found. The Espace Horloger Vallée de Joux museum offers visitors of all ages an opportunity to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of watchmaking and tells the history of this industry, as well as its future, through modern, playful, and interactive exhibitions. Not far from here, the Musée Atelier Audemars Piguet (optional; if you're still motivated), inaugurated in June 2020, invites visitors to plunge into the Swiss manufacturer’s cultural universe of past, present, and future.

Afterward, the beautiful caves of Vallorbe are waiting for you to be discovered, before your guide takes you to a hidden restaurant in the Jura mountains with great cheese and local dishes and a perfect view of Lake Geneva and the Mont Blan (Europe's highest mountains).

Day 8: Montreux → Jungfrau Region (guided)

Today a magnificent train ride is awaiting you - the Golden Pass. Personally, this is my favorite train line, even though it is short compared to the Glacier Express. Making its way up the steep mountain ridge you shouldn't miss a single moment! These tracks are also the only way crossing the nature parc of Gruyère - cars have to make a detour for hours to experience what you can do, stressless in one of the baroque wagons of the Golden Pass.

Your guide will pick you up on the other side of the national park for a visit to the medieval village of Gruyère and the Cailler chocolate factory, before heading into the Bernese Oberland.

Day 9: Jungfrau Region

This area has so much to offer: Head up the famous Jungfraujoch, or one of the many other mountains offering fantastic panoramas, visit the valley of the 72 waterfalls and enjoy one of the many hiking trails in the area. You might want to take a walk on the Männlichen, the small servant of the royal three mountains: Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. The notorious Eiger North Face was long time considered to be the last alpine challenge. A walk on the Mänlichen will let you dive into the tragic and heroic stories of this wall.

Optional: Paragliding (CHF 195 p.P.)

After a short introduction, you and your pilot run a few steps together down a gentle slope and suddenly you glide silently into the air. The flight takes you high above the Grindelwald valley whilst the majestic mountain scenery of Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn and Eiger Northface always lies in front of you. An unforgettable experience for all those who are enthusiastic about the idea of flying!

Day 10: Jungfrau Region → Lucerne

When booked as a guided tour: We'll stop by at the beautiful Aare gorge

On your way you will pass the blue-colored Lake Brienz before arriving in Lucerne. Lucerne's Old Town is rated every year among the most beautiful towns in the world. Enjoy the day on the shores of Lake Lucerne and take advantage of a boat cruise which is a perfect way to discover the picturesque lake winding its way through the mountains.

If you are interested in the history of Switzerland you might want to hop off the boat and hike part of the Switzerland trail or visit the Rütli meadow - nourished by Schiller's drama "William Tell" it is considered the historic place where the legendary oath of Rütli was taken and therefore a confederation of the first three cantons was formed. Or take the oldest cogwheel train of Europe up to the top of Mount Rigi, the ‘queen of all mountains’.

Day 11: Day trip to Ticino

This day is reserved for a trip to the Ticino, the Italian-speaking canton of Switzerland. Lucerne central station and Lugano are very well connected with direct trains in less than 2 hours (one way). In Bellinzona, discover the 3 Fortresses of Bellinzona on an e-MTB tour with a private guide. Continue to Lugano, the largest town of the Ticino, with its Mediterranean flair on the shores of Lake Lugano where you will have time to enjoy the afternoon before heading back to Lucerne.

Day 12: Lucerne → Zurich for departure

The airport is very well connected from Lucerne (approx. 1h) which will allow you to maybe get some souvenirs or just enjoy a hot coffee on the shores of the Lake.

We are confident that this itinerary will provide some exclusive memories for you until it is time to say: "Ade, Au revoir, ciao and hope to CYou again in Switzerland".
