Comments:

We're starting our trip in Varese, Italy for a wedding. After the wedding we plan to spend 4-5 days in Switzerland. We are in our early 30s, enjoy the outdoors, hiking, etc and are fine doing a fast paced trip.

Trip Itinerary:

We kindly ask for your understanding that the final tour itinerary including our detailed recommendations can only be provided after your confirmation and down payment.

Day 1: Arrival Lugano

Welcome to Lugano, the largest town of the Italian-speaking canton of Switzerland. The city with its Mediterranean flair lies in a bay on the northern side of Lake Lugano. For one of the best viewpoints over the town, the lake and its surrounding mountains, we recommend taking the funicular railway up Monte Brè, considered the sunniest mountain in Switzerland. Romanic villages and numerous hiking trails are waiting to be discovered.

Day 2: Lugano → Aletsch Arena

Today's ride is a highlight itself with the scenic views, the alpine passes and the Rhône Glacier before arriving in Fiesch. This small alpine town lies on the foot of the Eggishorn, part of the Aletsch Arena. Aletsch, the largest glacier of the Alps can be best admired from this side of the valley. An easy hike up to Eggishorn (2 927m) is our easier hike suggestion. You already indicated a good level of fitness. How about steady feet and not scared of heights? If both are no problem, we will share our recommendation for one of the most scenic hikes (partly climb) with you from where you can best enjoy the scene of the Aletsch glacier and the surrounding 4000m peaks. On clear days the peaks Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, as well as the famous Matterhorn, can be seen.

Your hotel is making history coming alive!

Day 3: Aletsch Arena → Zermatt

Is there anything to say about Zermatt? On the foot of Switzerland's natural landmark - the Matterhorn - this traditional and car-free town* is base for a large number of short walks or long hikes, mountaineering expeditions, and more.

As discussed on the phone we will include a Via-Ferrata with a mountain guide into your trip. For about 3 hours you will get another view on Zermatt, partly climbing, partly hiking, always attached to an iron rope.

Enjoy the evening on your balcony with a view of the Matterhorn.

Self-Guided (Train)

Day 4: Zermatt

This day will be reserved for a hike / outdoor activity of your choice.

My personal highlight on a hot day is the Gorner Gorge.

Day 5: Zermatt → Montreux

Continuing your train ride along the Valais (Valley) the language will change from German to French. Arriving at the Montreux Riviera you can enjoy the afternoon on the shores of Lake Geneva. A visit to the medieval Chillon Castle is always worth it and for the late afternoon, we will organize a degustation tour through the vine terraces of  Lavaux (a UNESCO world heritage).

Day 6: Montreux → Geneva

With only 7 minutes from the main train station in Geneva, the airport is the closest one in Europe and gives you some time to walk around in Geneva. Stroll around the old town or visit the English garden with its flower clock and the famous jet d'eau nearby. I'm regularly in Geneva and would be happy to show you around myself if this works out.

We are confident that this itinerary will provide some exclusive memories for you until it is time to say: "Ade, Au revoir, ciao and hope to CYou again in Switzerland"

Potential Extensions:

  • 1 day in Lugano

The canton of Ticino has so much more to offer. The castles of Bellinzona for example are great to explore and to combine with a hike.

  • 1 day in Valais

If you don't mind going a little off the beaten track I'd love to bring you to the valley of Evolène with its blue lake or to Leukerbad for a little hiking and wildlife spotting (one of the rare spots where you can actually spot a bearded vulture, the biggest alpine bird, as well as many other alpine animals).

  • 1 day in Montreux / Gruyère

Today another magnificent train ride is awaiting you - the Golden Pass. Personally, this is my favorite train line, even though it is short compared to the Glacier Express. Making its way up the steep mountain ridge you shouldn't miss a single moment! These tracks are also the only way crossing the nature parc of Gruyère - cars have to make a detour for hours to experience what you can do, stressless in one of the baroque wagons of the Golden Pass.

The medieval town of Gruyère is home to the namesake AOP cheese and close by in Broc one of the biggest chocolate manufacturers is based.
