Comments:
We love to hike, bike, sightsee, and also enjoy culture, great food, and having a lot of fun. We want to be active but not rushed with some down time here or there to explore or relax.
Trip Itinerary:
We kindly ask for your understanding that the final tour itinerary including our detailed recommendations can only be provided after your confirmation and down payment.
Day 1: Zurich Airport → Lucerne:
Zurich Airport is very well connected to Zurich city center. With only about 15 min by train to the city center, you can already benefit from your Swiss Travel Pass. Taking a taxi is not worth it here as you most likely get stuck in traffic.
The famous Bahnhofstrasse, the old town and numerous museums are within walking distance from the train station. We specifically recommend visiting the Swiss National Museum Zurich, showcasing the history of Switzerland from its beginnings up to the present day, giving an insight into the Swiss identity and the rich tapestry of the country’s history and culture.
*All Swiss train stations offer lockers in all sizes where you can leave your luggage behind for some hours.
Within an hour you'll reach Lucerne.
Day 2-4: Lucerne
Lucerne's Old Town is rated every year among the most beautiful towns in the world. Stroll around before you we will invite you on a boat cruise on Lake Lucerne. If you are interested in the history of Switzerland you might want to hop off and hike part of the Switzerland trail or visit the meadow where the legendary oath of Rüttli was taken and therefore a confederation of the first three cantons was formed.
Many photogenic mountains surround Lake Lucerne so you can decide which you may want to explore. Too hot to hike? No worries, countless water activities are awaiting you. We will provide you with our favorite things to do.
Another highlight is the oldest cogwheel train of Switzerland up to the top of Mount Rigi, the queen of all mountains, which is already included in your travel pass.

Day 5: Lucerne → Bern
Bern's cute little Old Town (Altstadt) is both convenient and enjoyable to explore by foot, with many streets restricted to pedestrians and public transportation. The Old Town spans from the Nydeggbrücke in the east to the Käfigturm, a tower that was once a city gate, in the west, on a narrow steep hillside. Marktgasse, which leads through the Historic Town and is filled with old houses that have been turned into small shops and businesses, is the main thoroughfare. The Kirchenfeldbrücke provides easy access to the museums in the Kirchenfeld neighborhood, which is located on the opposite shore of the Aare.
Day 6: Bern → Kandersteg
Within one hour you'll get to Kandersteg to make it on time for your following days with Backroads. Continuing your train ride along the Valais (Valley) the language will change from German to French. Arriving at the Montreux Riviera you can enjoy the rest of the day on the shores of Lake Geneva. A visit to the medieval Chillon Castle is always worth it.
Day 6-10: Backroads Travel through the Bernese Oberland
Day 11: Giessbach → Montreux:
Via the Lötschbergtunnel you'll arrive in the Canton Vallais.
Day 12: Montreux
Today everything will be about treating your taste buds: From Montreux, you will take the Golden Pass to get to the Maison Caillier. A tour through the history of Swiss chocolate incl. a degustation will make you understand what Swiss chocolate is all about.
But save some appetite: Gruyère, home to the famous Gruyère AOP cheese is only a stone's throw away. Stroll through this medieval town and enjoy a delicious fondue before leaving for the Bernese Oberland
Day 13: Montreux
Follow the northern shoreline to Geneva, home of the UN, ICRC, and numerous other NGOs. Depending on your interest and time until departure, we are happy to organize a guided tour through the UN.
Day 14: Montreux → Zurich
Your hotel is located conveniently close to the famous Bahnhofstrasse (shopping district) in the heart of Zurich's Old Town. A great way to discover Zurich and to learn a little more about ist history are the Free Walking Tours.
The twin towers of the Grossmünster are not only Zurich's prominent landmark, visitors can also climb up the Karlsturm and enjoy a breathtaking view over the city.
Day 15: Departure
Zurich Airport is very well connected to the city center. With only about 15 min to the city center, you can benefit again from your Swiss Travel Pass. This will allow you to get some souvenirs or just enjoy a hot coffee on the shores of the Lake as well.
We are confident that this itinerary will provide some exclusive memories for you and your family until it is time to say: "Ade, Au revoir, ciao and hope to CYou again in Switzerland"
