Day 1: Arrival Zurich → Lake Lucerne

Willkommen in der Schweiz -Welcome to Switzerland!

Your guide will meet you at the arrival hall at Zurich Airport and take you to Zurich itself. Here we'll go on a private guided tour through Zurich's Old Town and along the Lake for a first impression of Zurich, Switzerland and its history.

We won't overdo it on your first day. So we head over to Lake Lucerne. Your hotel is a true gem, directly on the shores of the Lake. Perfect for a little walk in the late afternoon to stretch out your legs.

Day 2: Lucerne

We'll start by visiting Lucerne's house mountain - the Pilatus. Commissioned in 1889, a gradient of up to 48 percent, and about 30 minutes travel time: that is the steepest cogwheel railway in the world in figures. Meter by meter it scales the way from Alpnachstad to Pilatus Kulm, passing alpine meadows and striking rock formations.

Lucerne is often voted as one of the prettiest cities in the world, featuring colorful old town and 14th-century city walls, as well as covered bridges including the iconic Kapellbrücke with its 17th-century art.

Your guide will take you on a city walk before it's time to Switzerlands' crip - Schwyz. If you'd like we'll stop by the Victorinox factory for an original Swiss army knife.

Guided Tour

Day 3: Lake Lucerne → Giessbach

Over the Brünig Pass we will enter the Bernese Oberland. In Haslital bei Meiringen the Aare River has cut a gorge in the limestone that is 200 metres deep in some places. Thanks to the walkways and tunnels, it is easy to hike through the entire gorge.

Swiss Outdoor Museum Ballenberg - It showcases traditional rural architecture, crafts, and lifestyles from various regions of Switzerland. The museum covers an area of over 100 hectares and contains over 100 historic buildings that have been relocated from all over Switzerland. You can observe demonstrations of traditional crafts, attend events, visit the farm animals, and learn about the history and culture of Switzerland through interactive exhibits and guided tours.

Day 4: Jungfrau Region:

Lauterbrunnen - located between towering rock faces and mountain peaks and it is home to 72 thundering waterfalls, secluded valleys, and colorful alpine meadows.

In 1911, the 19-year-old J.R.R. Tolkien hikes through the Swiss Alps – and of course through the Lauterbrunnen Valley with its steep rockfaces. Hardly anyone knows that he found his inspiration for the landscape in «Lord of the Rings» here. Yes, really: those who know the books and films immediately have the feeling they've been thrown into Middle-Earth.

We'll then continue up the mountains: The Schilthorn stands at 2,970 meters. It offers panoramic views of the Eiger, Mönch, Jungfrau, and more than 200 other peaks. The Schilthorn is also a UNESCO World Heritage site.

It gained fame as a location for the 1969 James Bond film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. The summit has a revolving restaurant called Piz Gloria, which was named after the film, and rotates once every 45 minutes.

Day 5: Giessbach to Montreux:

Today a magnificent train ride is awaiting you - the Golden Pass. Personally, this is my favorite train line, even though it is short compared to the Glacier Express. Making its way up the steep mountain ridge you shouldn't miss a single moment! These tracks are also the only way crossing the nature parc of Gruyère - cars have to make a detour for hours to experience what you can do, stressless in one of the baroque wagons of the Golden Pass.

Let's round up this day and become a Chocolate Champion: Quickly off the Golden pass you can find the Maison Cailler: This sense of imagination is paired with presentations on the different stages in the Cailler chocolate production process, which are relayed as part of the interactive audiovisual guided tour. Through cameras, the visitors can watch live as the ingredients of chocolate are processed. In the end, you'll have a Chocolate workshop, so you can become a chocolate champion yourself!

Arriving at the Montreux Riviera you can enjoy the late afternoon on the shores of Lake Geneva

Day 6: Montreux:

Follow the northern shoreline to Geneva, home of the UN, ICRC, and numerous other NGOs. Stroll through Geneva's Old Town, climb up the tower of the St. Pierre Cathedral and talk a walk along the shores in the English Garden to Geneva's landmark - the Jet d'eau. If you are anyhow into science: The CERN - Find out more about the Big Bang! (tours are free of charge, but available only on-site).

Back in Montreux, we will include a private tour of the Chateau Chillon: If ever a castle could fit the fairy-tale bill, the dashingly handsome Château de Chillon would be it, with its moat, double ramparts, and riot of turrets and towers, plus knockout views of Lake Geneva and the French Alps.

Day 7: Montreux → Zermatt

Continuing your ride along the Valais (Valley) the language will change from French to German with some stops to discover that valley a little closer. Arriving in Zermatt you'll have the afternoon to linger around and enjoy the beautiful scenery on foot of the Matterhorn.

A stop here and there will be suggested by your guide.

Day 6: Zermatt

You will have the chance to discover Zermatt on the foot of Switzerland's natural landmark - the Matterhorn. Very popular is the 5 lakes hike in the morning to get a perfect reflection of the surrounding mountains.

Also, take up the cable car to the Glacier Paradise, Europe's highest cable car station (3883 meters). One of the highlights is certainly the platform with a view over 38 four-thousand-meter peaks and 14 glaciers of the Swiss, Italian and French Alps.

Day 7: Zermatt → Como (05.10.2023)

The shortest connection is via the Nufenen Pass.

Potential other stops would be e.g. the Rhone Ice Grotte: Each year the grotto is hewn from the glacier ice anew or the Goms suspension bridge will let us stretch out our legs and then via the Gotthard pass.

From here on Eleonoara and the team of Viandando will take over.

Day 8-13: Northern Italy (organized by Viandando)

Day 14: Milano / Lugano → Zurich (10.10.23):

Take the train back to Switzerland. Directly via the Gotthard tunnel, through the Alps you'll arrive in Zurich. Your hotel is just on the other side of the street in Zurich. Enjoy your last full day in Zurich, potentially do some souvenir shopping or have a drink along the lake shores.

Day 15: Zurich → Zurich Airport (11.10.23):

We will organize a private transfer to Zurich Airport.

We are confident that this itinerary will provide some exclusive memories for you and your family until it is time to say: "Ade, Au revoir, ciao and hope to CYou again in Switzerland"
