Trip Itinerary:

We kindly ask for your understanding that the final tour itinerary including our detailed recommendations can only be provided after your confirmation and down payment.

Day 1: Monday 25.7.22: Arrival in Zurich → Appenzell

Your guide will pick you up at the airport and you will head east to discover the UNESCO world heritage Abbey district of St. Gallen. Ist magnificent Baroque cathedral forms a unique historical ensemble. The Abbey Library - with Switzerland's most beautiful hall and ancient books will fascinate you.

Later on, your driver-guide will bring you into the Appenzell with potential short walks and picturesque stops before arriving at your traditional hotel in this beautiful region.

Day 2: Tuesday 26.7.22: Appenzell → Lucerne

You will start your day with an easy hike on the edges of the Alpstein mountains - the Saxer Lücke is a spectacular sharp rock formation (great for photos and drone flights!). Your guide will accompany you to Liechtenstein before it is time to turn west for central Switzerland. On your way, you will pass the beautiful blueish Lake Walen from where the mighty Churfirsten mountains arise.

Day 3: Wednesday 27.7.22: Lucerne (self-guided day)

Lucerne's Old Town is rated every year among the most beautiful towns in the world. Your hotel is located a little outside in Vitznau on the foot of Mount Rigi, away from the touristic crowds, but the Old Town of Lucerne can be reached easily via boat.

Those who are interested in the history of Switzerland might want to hop off the boat and hike part of the Switzerland trail or visit the meadow where the legendary oath of Rüttli was taken and therefore a confederation of the first three cantons was formed.

Also, the oldest cogwheel train in Switzerland up to the top of Mount Rigi, the queen of all mountains, is included in your Swiss Travel Pass. Enjoy a first glimpse of the Alps and the beautiful scenery of Lake Lucerne.

Day 4: Thursday 28.7.22: Lucerne → Lugano

Lucerne and Lugano are very well connected. This way you will arrive on the south side of the alps in less than 2 hours. In Bellinzona, one of the local guides will take you on a tour to discover the fortresses of Bellinzona

Lugano is the largest town in the Italian-speaking canton of Switzerland. The city with its Mediterranean flair lies in a bay on the northern side of Lake Lugano.

Day 5: Friday 29.7.22: Lugano → Engadin

From Lugano, your guide will take you on a scenic ride through the Ticino. One of the stops will certainly be the Valle Verzacsca.

If you are interested and open to a 5-hour hike: The mountain hike from Maloja to Bivio is one of the most spectacular mountain pass hikes in the Alps – and right at the top of the pass, you will find Europe’s special triple watershed

Otherwise, the Engadin valley has so much to offer that your guide can easily find an activity or attraction of your taste. At the end of the day, it is time to say goodbye to your guide. From now on your trip is organized as a self-guided train tour. All accommodations are close to the train stations.

Optional: Luggage service from one place to the next

Guided & Self-Guided

Day 6: Saturday 30.7.22: Engadin valley

The Engadin Valley is a true nature and outdoor paradise. St. Moritz was not without reason the birthplace of winter tourism and hosted the Winter Olympics twice. Despite its cosmopolitan atmosphere, it is the culture and tradition of this luxurious Alpine resort that has made it what it is today.

Go on a train ride on the Bernina tracks to Alp Grüm or even to Tirano in Italy. Offering breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and glaciers this UNESCO world heritage doesn't leave any wishes open.

For the active family members: We have plenty of hiking suggestions for every fitness level. Our tip: Rent yourself an (E-) mountain bike to explore the Bernina valley a little closer and bike back from Alp Grüm.

For cheese lovers: Have a break at the alpine cheesery Morteratsch and follow every step of making this swiss delicacy with your own eyes

Day 7: Sunday 31.7.22: Engadin → Zermatt

Today we will add another highlight to your travel memories: The famous Glacier Express train ride (1st class with a 4-course menu on board). Over its entire length, the Glacier Express leads over 291 bridges and through 91 tunnels over the Swiss Alps.

On your trip from St Moritz, the train winds its way through remote valleys, past sheer rock faces, idyllic mountain villages, over the Landwasser Viaduct, and through the Rhine Gorge, the Grand Canyon of Switzerland.

We were talking about the Gorner Grat: Check out your hotel at the bottom of the itinerary!

Day 8:  Monday 1.8.22: Zermatt

You will have the chance to discover Zermatt on the foot of Switzerland's natural landmark - the Matterhorn. Very popular is the 5 lakes hike in the morning to get a perfect reflection of the surrounding mountains.

Also, take up the cable car to the Glacier Paradise, Europe's highest cable car station (3883 meters). One of the highlights is certainly the platform with a view over 38 four-thousand-meter peaks and 14 glaciers of the Swiss, Italian and French Alps.

Ascend of the Breithorn

Get ready to climb (hike) your first 4 000m peak - the Breithorn. This private tour is a perfect way to get a sense of high Alpine air for the first time, but only for surefooted and experienced hikers accompanied by a mountain guide.  In the early morning, you take the cable car to the Matterhorn glacier paradise at 3,883 m. The climb to the top and the descent afterward lasts about three hours depending on the conditions.

Day 9:  Tuesday 2.8.22: Zermatt → Montreux

Continuing your train ride along the Valais (Valley) the language will change from German to French. Arriving at the Montreux Riviera you can enjoy the rest of the day on the shores of Lake Geneva. A visit to the medieval Chillon Castle is always worth it.

In the afternoon we organize a degustation tour through the vine terraces of Lavaux (another UNESCO world heritage). For your teen boy, there will be a possible alternative with fruit juice and snacks.

Day 10: Wednesday 3.8.22: Day Excursion to Geneva

Follow the northern shoreline to Geneva, home of the UN, ICRC, and numerous other NGOs. Enjoy some time in Geneva's Old Town, and walk to the famous Jet d'eau and the flower watch. Your friend will probably want to show you around anyway. As mentioned during our call: The best fondue and local experience you can get is in Genevas public swimming bath - the Bain de Paquis. Let me know if I shall make a reservation for you.

Visit CERN - Guided tours for individuals can only be booked on-site and on the day of arrival.

Day 11: Thursday 4.8.22: Montreux → Jungfrau Region

Today another magnificent train ride is awaiting you - the Golden Pass. Personally, this is my favorite train line, even though it is short compared to the Glacier Express. Making its way up the steep mountain ridge you shouldn't miss a single moment! These tracks are also the only way crossing the nature parc of Gruyère - cars have to make a detour for hours to experience what you can do, stressless in one of the baroque wagons of the Golden Pass.

Your next three days will be in a self-catered vacation home right in the heart of the Jungfrau Region - you could easily welcome your friends from Germany or I'd be happy to organize an accommodation close by.

Day 12, 13: Friday & Saturday 5./6.8.22: Jungfrau Region

This area has so much to offer: Head up the famous Jungfraujoch, or one of the many other mountains offering fantastic panoramas, visit the valley of the 72 waterfalls and enjoy one of the many hiking trails in the area. You might want to take a walk on the Männlichen, the small servant of the royal three mountains: Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. The notorious Eiger North Face was long time considered to be the last alpine challenge. A walk on the Mänlichen will let you dive into the tragic and heroic stories of this wall.

Jungfraujoch (included):

Icy air sweeps over your face, snow crunches underfoot, and the panorama almost takes your breath away: on one side the view of the Swiss Mittelland towards the Vosges, on the other the Aletsch Glacier, lined with four thousand meter peaks. Standing on the Jungfraujoch 3,454 meters above sea level, you can feel it with your first step: this is a different world. It's one you have to experience.

Optional: All kinds of outdoor sports

Mountain biking, climbing, paragliding, Canyoning, Rafting, etc. Let me know if I should implement one of these activities.

Day 14: Sunday 7.8.22: Jungfrau → Zurich

Via our capital Bern, you will make your way back to Zurich. Stroll around in Bern's cute Old Town which is also a UNESCO world heritage site; and are you aware that the bear is not only the symbol of the canton? Bears live in the city center in a pit right on the other riverside of the old town. If possible I'd like to organize a guided tour through our parliament for you (highly demanded and available only with no parliament sessions) for more explanation about our political system the direct democracy.

Your hotel in Zurich is located conveniently close to the famous Bahnhofstrasse (shopping district). The twin towers of the Grossmünster are not only Zurich's prominent landmark, visitors can also climb up the Karlsturm and enjoy a breathtaking view over the city and its Old Town.

Day 15: Monday 8.8.22: Departure from Zurich Airport

Zurich Airport is very well connected to the city center. With only about 15 min by train to the city center, you can benefit from your Swiss Travel Pass one last time. Taking a taxi is not worth it here.

I am  confident that this itinerary will provide some exclusive memories for you and your family until it is time to say: "Ade, Au revoir, ciao and hope to CYou again in Switzerland"
