Due to our ages 82 and 74, we aren't up to a lot of hiking although we are quite active and healthy for our ages
Comments:
We love outdoors and scenery, not so much museums and architecture, maybe see one castle. Love trains, but do not want to feel rushed. Staying a few days in one spot a couple of times in order to just enjoy the culture, scenery, and rest.

Day 1: Arrival Zurich Airport to Lucerne:
Zurich Airport is very well connected to its city center. With only about 15 min by train to the city center, you can already benefit from your Swiss Travel Pass. Taking a taxi is not worth it here. The main train station (where you can lock your luggage for the moment) is also the beginning of the famous Bahnhofstrasse (shopping district) - perfect for your day of arrival to walk around, stretch out your legs after your flight and get an impression of Switzerland's biggest city.
The old town and numerous museums are within walking distance. We specifically recommend visiting the Swiss National Museum Zurich, showcasing the history of Switzerland from its beginnings up to the present day, giving an insight into the Swiss identity and the rich tapestry of the country’s history and culture.
If you feel more like relaxing on your day of arrival, no problem about that either. Trains depart every 20-30 minutes to Lucerne.
Day 2: Lucerne
Sitting on the foot of the mountain Pilatus, Lucerne is often voted as one of the prettiest cities in the world, featuring a colorful old town and 14th-century city walls, as well as covered bridges including the iconic Kapellbrücke with its 17th-century art.
Today is reserved to visit the house mountain Pilatus. Commissioned in 1889, a gradient of up to 48 percent, about 30 minutes travel time: that is the steepest cogwheel railway in the world in figures. Meter by meter it scales the way from Alpnachstad to Pilatus Kulm, passing alpine meadows and striking rock formations.

Day 3: Lucerne → Lugano
When the journey becomes an adventure: you are discovering history on the Gotthard Panorama Express. A unique combination of boat and train travel en route between Central Switzerland and Ticino.
Lugano is the largest town in the Italian-speaking canton of Switzerland. The city with its Mediterranean flair lies in a bay on the northern side of Lake Lugano. Stop in Bellinzona and discover the 3 Fortresses of Bellinzona.
Day 4: Lugano → Engadin
From Lugano, a Bus will bring you safely to Tirano. Then the Bernina Express links up regions with different languages and cultures. This is not a rack railway and the train winds its way gently through splendid scenery.
On the highest railway across the Alps, the Bernina Express climbs up to the glistening glaciers before descending to the palms of Italy far below. This rail link between Northern and Southern Europe builds bridges between regions with different languages and cultures.
The railway is unique, blending ideally with the alpine landscapes around the Albula and Bernina Passes. The train negotiates the 55 tunnels, 196 bridges and inclines of up to 70 per mille with ease.
Day 5: Engadin valley
The Engadin Valley is a true nature and outdoor paradise. St. Moritz was not without reason the birthplace of winter tourism and hosted the Winter Olympics twice. Despite its cosmopolitan atmosphere, it is the culture and tradition of this luxurious Alpine resort that has made it what it is today.
For cheese lovers: Have a break at the alpine cheesery Morteratsch and follow every step of making this swiss delicacy with your own eyes and get yourself a plate of cheese or even an original Swiss cheese fondue!
Day 6: Engadin → Zermatt
Today we will add another highlight to your travel memories: The famous Glacier Express train ride (Excellence Class with a 7-course menu on board). Over its entire length, the Glacier Express leads over 291 bridges and through 91 tunnels over the Swiss Alps.
On your trip from St Moritz, the train winds its way through remote valleys, past sheer rock faces, idyllic mountain villages, over the Landwasser Viaduct, and through the Rhine Gorge, the Grand Canyon of Switzerland.
Day 7: Zermatt
You will have the chance to discover Zermatt on the foot of Switzerland's natural landmark - the Matterhorn. Very popular is the 5 lakes hike in the morning to get a perfect reflection of the surrounding mountains.
Included: Surrounded by no fewer than 29 peaks above 4,000 meters, such as the majestic Matterhorn and the Dufourspitze as well as the third-longest glacier of the Alps, Gornergrat rewards visitors with unparalleled views.
Optional: take up the cable car to the Glacier Paradise, Europe's highest cable car station (3883 meters). One of the highlights is certainly the platform with a view over 38 four-thousand-meter peaks and 14 glaciers of the Swiss, Italian and French Alps.
Day 8: Zermatt → Montreux
Continuing your train ride along the Valais (Valley) the language will change from German to French. Arriving at the Montreux Riviera you can enjoy the rest of the day on the shores of Lake Geneva. A visit to the medieval Chillon Castle (included) is always worth it.
Day 9: Montreux → Jungfrau Region
Today another magnificent train ride is awaiting you - the Golden Pass. Personally, this is my favorite train line, even though it is short compared to the Glacier Express. Making its way up the steep mountain ridge you shouldn't miss a single moment! These tracks are also the only way crossing the nature parc of Gruyère - cars have to make a detour for hours to experience what you can do, stressless in one of the baroque wagons of the Golden Pass.
Day 10: Jungfrau region
This area has so much to offer: Head up the famous Jungfraujoch, or one of the many other mountains offering fantastic panoramas, visit the valley of the 72 waterfalls and enjoy one of the many hiking trails in the area. You might want to take a walk on the Männlichen, the small servant of the royal three mountains: Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. The notorious Eiger North Face was long time considered to be the last alpine challenge. A walk on the Mänlichen will let you dive into the tragic and heroic stories of this wall.
Jungfraujoch (included):
Icy air sweeps over your face, snow crunches underfoot, and the panorama almost takes your breath away: on one side the view of the Swiss Mittelland towards the Vosges, on the other the Aletsch Glacier, lined with four thousand-meter peaks. Standing on the Jungfraujoch 3,454 meters above sea level, you can feel it with your first step: this is a different world. It's one you have to experience.
Day 11: Jungfrau Region to Zurich
Via our capital Bern (early leaving required), you will make your way back to Zurich. Stroll around Bern's cute Old Town which is also a UNESCO world heritage site; and are you aware that the bear is not only the symbol of the canton? Bears live in the city center in a pit right on the other riverside of the old town.
Day 12: Departure from Zurich
Zurich Airport is very well connected to the city center. With only about 15 min to the city center, we will provide you with a train ticket for your last day in Zurich. Your hotel will be located directly at the main train station
