Day 1: Zurich Arrival

Willkommen in der Schweiz -Welcome to Switzerland!

We will organize a private transfer from Zurich Airport to your hotel, located in the heart of the city, close to the famous Bahnhofstrasse (shopping district) and right in Zurich's Old Town - perfect for your day of arrival to go spontaneously for a short walk and get an impression of Switzerland's biggest city.

To get rid of the Jetlag you may want to climb up the twin towers of the Grossmünster, which are not only Zurich's prominent landmark, but you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the city.

Day 2 & 3: Zurich & Day Excursion to the North:

Days at leisure - here are 2 suggestions of what you could do:

Your Swiss travel pass gives you full flexibility to visit one of the many museums or enjoy the view from Zurichs own "house mountain" - the Uetliberg.

Only about an hour away by train the biggest waterfalls of Europe, the Rhine Falls, are located. Get on a boat to get on the rock in the middle of the falls for the best view.

From here you could head to St. Gallen to discover the UNESCO world heritage Abbey district of St. Gallen. Ist magnificent Baroque cathedral forms a unique historical ensemble. The Abbey Library - with Switzerland's most beautiful hall and ancient books will fascinate you.

Day 4: Zurich → Engadin Valley

Let's not waste any more time on the concrete jungle of Zurich (overdramatized; Zurich has a cute little Old-Town and lots of museums).

As the first stop on your journey, you could explore Chur. With a settlement history of over 5000 years, Chur is the oldest city in Switzerland and the picturesque old town is considered one of the most fully preserved in the country. Especially worth seeing are the episcopal palace, the Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Assumption, and the superbly preserved buildings in the old town.

OR

If you would like to do some shopping or equip yourselves for your next days in the mountains, you might want to stop by at the Landquart fashion outlet.

For hands-free traveling this day, we'll include an Express Luggage Service (leave your luggage in the morning at your hotel, it will get delivered on the same day between 6-11 pm at your new hotel).

~3 hours by train (1 change)

Day 5: Engadin Valley

The Engadin Valley is a true nature and outdoor paradise. St. Moritz was not without reason the birthplace of winter tourism and hosted the Winter Olympics twice. Despite its cosmopolitan atmosphere, it is the culture and tradition of this luxurious Alpine resort that has made it what it is today.

Go on a train ride on the Bernina tracks to Alp Grüm or even to Tirano in Italy. Offering breathtaking views on the surrounding peaks and glaciers this UNESCO world heritage doesn't leave any wishes open.  For cheese lovers: Have a break at the alpine cheesery Morteratsch and follow every step of making this swiss delicacy with your own eyes

Self-Guided (Train)

Day 6: Engadin → Zermatt

Today we will add another highlight to your travel memories: The famous Glacier Express train ride (8 hours). Over its entire length, the Glacier Express leads over 291 bridges and through 91 tunnels over the Swiss Alps. A 4-course menu on-board rounds up the entire train ride.

On your trip from St Moritz, the train winds its way through remote valleys, past sheer rock faces, idyllic mountain villages, over the Landwasser Viaduct, and through the Rhine Gorge, the Grand Canyon of Switzerland.

~8 hours on Glacier Express (no change)

Day 7: Zermatt:

Get ready to climb (hike) your first 4 000m peak - the Breithorn. This tour is a perfect way to get a sense of high Alpine air for the first time, but only for surefooted and experienced hikers accompanied by a mountain guide. In the early morning, you take the cable car to the Matterhorn glacier paradise at 3,883 m from where you can see 38 four-thousand-meter peaks and 14 glaciers.

The climb to the top and the descent afterward lasts about three hours depending on the conditions. After the climb, we recommend visiting the Glacier Palace in the Matterhorn glacier paradise. It is carved into the glacier and displays many ice sculptures and centuries-old ice formations.

Day 8: Zermatt → Montreux

Continuing your ride along the Valais (Valley) the language will change from German to French. Arriving at the Montreux Riviera you can enjoy the afternoon on the shores of Lake Geneva.

As part of your travel arrangement, we will include the entry into the Chateau Chillon: If ever a castle could fit the fairy-tale bill, the dashingly handsome Château de Chillon would be it, with its moat, double ramparts and riot of turrets and towers, plus knockout views of Lake Geneva and the French Alps.

~ 2.5 hours by train (1 change)

Day 9: Montreux:

Explore the vine terraces of Lavaux (another UNESCO world heritage) and go on a guided walk which ends up with a degustation of our local wines. There is a reason why Switzerland does not export that much of its own wine - we like to enjoy it ourselves!

Follow the northern shoreline to Geneva (via train ~1 hour), home of the UN, ICRC, and numerous other NGOs. Depending on your interest and time until departure, we are happy to organize a guided tour through the UN. If you are even remotely interested in science a visit of the CERN is  a Must!

Day 11: Montreux to Grindelwald:

Another magnificent train ride is awaiting you - the Golden Pass. Personally, this is my favorite train line, even though it is short compared to the Glacier Express. Making its way up the steep mountain ridge you shouldn't miss a single moment! These tracks are also the only way crossing the nature parc of Gruyère - cars have to make a detour for hours to experience what you can do, stressless in one of the baroque wagons of the Golden Pass.

Take a little detour to Bern: The bear is not only the symbol of Switzerland's capital, bears actually live in the heart of the city. Stroll around in Bern's old town which is part of the UNESCO world heritage.

Again we'll include a Luggage Express service for hands-free traveling this day.

~ 4 hours train (min. 3 changes in total incl. stop in Bern)

Day 12: Grindelwald

This day is reserved to explore the Jungfraujoch: Icy air sweeps over your face, snow crunches underfoot, and the panorama almost takes your breath away: on one side the view of the Swiss Mittelland towards the Vosges, on the other the Aletsch Glacier, lined with four thousand meter peaks. Standing on the Jungfraujoch 3,454 meters above sea level, you can feel it with your first step: this is a different world. It's one you have to experience.

Optional (CHF 220 p.P.): Paragliding

After a short introduction, you and your pilot run a few steps together down a gentle slope and suddenly you glide silently into the air. The flight takes you high above the Grindelwald valley whilst the majestic mountain scenery of Wetterhorn, Schreckhorn and Eiger Northface always lies in front of you. An unforgettable experience for all those who are enthusiastic about the idea of flying!

Day 13: Grindelwald → Lucerne

Lucerne's Old Town is rated every year among the most beautiful towns in the world. Stroll around before you we will invite you on a sunset boat cruise on Lake Lucerne.  Experience the natural spectacle of a radiant sunset over the towering peaks of Central Switzerland. Let the tranquility of the lake and the majesty of the mountains do their bit, while the stately steamboat or the vessel "MS Diamant" gently glides over the waves. The catering crew will be delighted to serve you a selection of popular drinks or invite you for a refined dinner.

We'll organize a chocolate workshop in the afternoon: Have you always wanted to try your hand at being a chocolatier? Then it's time! During this making session in the heart of Lucerne, a Chocolatier will share their secret tips and knowledge about the origin of Cocoa and their handcrafting.

~ 2.5 hours by train (1 change + potential stop in Brienz)

Day 14: Lucerne

Enjoy the day on the shores of Lake Lucerne. If you are interested in the history of Switzerland you might want to hop off the boat and hike part of the Switzerland trail or visit the meadow where the legendary oath of Rüttli was taken and therefore a confederation of the first three cantons was formed.

Or take the oldest cogwheel train of Switzerland up to the top of Mount Rigi, the ‘queen of all mountains’.

Day 15: Lucerne → Zurich Airport

Do some souvenir shopping or just have a coffee on the shores of Lake Lucerne before it's time to leave for the airport in Zurich which ich well connected from Lucerne.

We are confident that this itinerary will provide some exclusive memories for you and your family until it is time to say: "Ade, Au revoir, ciao and hope to CYou again in Switzerland"
